“I screwed up,” Schmidt said at All Things Digital conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, United States. Schmidt recognition comes two months after he was no longer serving as CEO of Google. Eric Schmidt is now the Executive Chairman of Google, its position was replaced by Larry Page. Under Page, his employees were asked to develop more ways to make users more connected with family or friends, as well as on Facebook.
Apparently it is a priority mentioned Schmidt, who has spoken through the internal memo written in about four years ago. At that time, Facebook only has 20 million active users. Schmidt admitted he and other Google executives were not too serious when facing Facebook. Now, after it has 500 million users worldwide, Facebook seems more powerful than Google. Along with the continued increase in users of Facebook, social networks are then able to attract more online advertising and discourage the growth of Google’s finances.
Even more worrying for Google, there is much information on Facebook that cannot be indexed by Google search. These restrictions make Google become ‘less useful’ as more and more people are forming online social circle. This also makes it difficult for Google to handle personal preference which can help advertisers.
