Facebook and Skype Giants Combined Together

Facebook and Skype are two big online giants and they have millions of users online. Facebook is one of the most widely visited website on the internet and Skype is the most widely used chat service. By combining these two you get the best out of them.

It is interesting to know that Facebook has its own video calling and chatting service, named as 360Mate but it has limited features. Most people feels little annoying because it requires Adobe Air installed on the system before 360Mate application. But with this new platform users can login their account through Skype. In fact the new version of Skype has different setup for Facebook users. The Skype 5.5 Beta has simpler and smaller toolbar, and it is much easier to use.

There is also a rumor that Facebook is planning to add a small button on top bar of the chat box and on profile page of friends beside poke button. The rumor is not confirmed yet but it can be applied on Facebook after sometime. The users will have to send requests by clicking on the button and it has to be accepted by the guest in order to start video chat. The video chat also requires a small plug-in installed on the system. Some people also prefer using a dedicated application for video service such as Skype because it delivers more flexibility than on browser.

It is also good to know that the joint service only works between two users and did not offer conference feature at the time of its launch. Mark Zuckerberg also replied on one question that nothing should be ruled out, which indicates to some extent that this integrated video chat service is in its early stage and users may see more full-of-fun features in future.

Facebook is also trying to bring new features to its video chat service. By working with Skye, Facebook now has a whole new platform for their users. Some people also think that they may not even need Skype after sometime. Facebook users can text chat, like unlike status of friends, share things and do much more. Infact Skype 5.5 beta has a whole dedicated tab for Facebook users where they can see all their friends and see who is online. There are again rumors that Facebook can buy Skype as Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5 million, but it is still a rumor.

The new service was first introduced in Skype 5 last year but a newer version of beta 5.5 was introduced this year, which is packed with great line of more useful features. By offering such features Facebook is in competition with Apple. Back in August Apple allowed Gmail users to make web calls on their devices. So Facebook had to come up with something really interesting. By this new integration Facebook users can now send SMS and even call friends through Skype beta 5.5 premium services.

It is a great advantage for Facebook and Skype users but they have to wait to see some more interesting features.
