After some rumors heard and posted in some technology media, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO announced unofficially that the Microsoft Windows 8 is ready to launch. The launching itself, according to the CEO, will be done next year. Based on his unofficial announcement, the next generation of Windows operating system will be aimed for the technology trend without leaving the conventional. It means the focus of the latest Microsoft operating system will be on slates and tablets without leaving conventional PCs and laptops. Actually, there is no surmising news related to the product because we have heard for some rumors about the successor of Windows 7 will be launched in 2012.
If we remember, Microsoft uses three-year release cycle each time wants to publish new product or software and 2012 is three years the existence of Windows 7. Unfortunately, some analysts still doubt it. They said that the name and the release date announced by Ballmer was a misstatement. They have ever heard about the new Windows 7 that will be released next year but they never heard about the name and the release date before Steve Ballmer unofficially announced it.
After Ballmer’s unofficially announcement about the release date of Microsoft Windows 8; it seems to be reality. According to some technology media which report Taipei Computex, they have seen the demo of the successor of Windows 7. They even captured the interface of the latest Windows, which was designed for tablets and slates. The interface shows us that the Windows 8 is the first time Microsoft Windows will receive a true touch interface. Since XP, Microsoft has tried to apply touch capabilities onto their operating system. During that period, the American technology manufacturer were always failed to solve the gap between precise mouse and keyboard interface, and sloppy, imprecise and finger-based interface.
According to the demo and the press conference of Steve Sinofsky, the president of Windows and Windows Live, Windows 8 has solved those problems. Through the latest Windows, Microsoft describes the new interface as “touch first”. The interface works with a mouse and keyboard but it was specially designed and purposed for fingers. The demo also revealed that the Windows 8 will include an application store of some kind. Unfortunately, there are no explanations about it yet, Microsoft seems want to keep it still for themselves and public will be told after it was released next year.
Microsoft still has some months before there is partner wants to use the interface. Based on the demo and some analysts’ opinion, the Windows 8 and its gadget will become a tough competitor for other technology manufacturers. The Microsoft’s product will be a credible and serious competitor on the tablet market. However, Microsoft seems do not want to use the product as user interface for tablet but also user interface for Windows. Basically, the Windows 8 will bring the same technology and requirements as his older brother, Windows 7 with some advanced improvements. However, if we touch and try to apply it for our activities, we will feel the differences.
One thing we cannot get from the American technology manufacturer, which is about the date the product, will be released. The company only explained about the year not the precise date. However, the product seems need to be fixed and repaired. With some improvements, Windows 8 will be as the Microsoft target, which is serious and credible competitor for tablet which using other Operating Systems. Maybe, what have been done by Microsoft with its Windows 8 is little bit late but we can rely on them because the product will bring so many advanced features which cannot be given by other competitors.
